Junior Travel Ambassadors

The Junior Travel Ambassadors (JTA) scheme is a programme designed for primary school pupils to take the lead in promoting safe, active and independent travel within their school communities. This is a very important role, which helps the children develop communication skills whilst making a valuable contribution to the school.

Not only are the JTAs supported by a School Guide (a member of staff from school), but also officers from the Road Safety Unit and Transport for London (TfL).

At the start of the school year four children in year 5 are invited to attend a day. The Mayor of Bromley is usually in attendance to present the JTAs with a special badge and certificate. They also receive a JTA resource kit containing all the information, ideas and templates needed to carry out fun competitions and activities within school.

We are Unicorn’s Junior Travel Ambassadors (JTAs). You can easily identify us within school as we wear our JTA badges. Our aim is to:

* Encourage parents and pupils to travel safely to and from school.

* Raise awareness of road safety so that pupils feel safe on London roads.

* Promote a greener approach to transport.

The Junior Travel Ambassador scheme is run by Transport for London. We represent our school at Bromley Borough meetings. Every half term we meet and discuss ideas for future projects, promote and organise competitions which make our friends and families think about road safety and transport. Our main priority is to encourage pupils to walk, scoot or ride to school whenever possible.

We run a competition in which each class competes to walk to school most often each month. Walking to and from school is important, but we also want pupils of Unicorn Primary School to be safe on the roads of London. We work with our school to create a safer environment. We also have a lot of fun running competitions to encourage a safe and sensible attitude to the roads of London.
